Based on M.K. Binodini Devi’s experimental ballet, Thoibi, developed from her powerful and seminal essay Thoibidu Warouhou’i that ignited environmental awareness in Manipur, Sangai, blends Manipuri folklore, ballads and environmental concern in a ballet performed by the JN Manipur Dance Academy’s Ballet Unit. The film was awarded the British Film Institute’s Outstanding Film of the Year Award in 1989.
